Bioshock Infinite

Told you I was completing these games in super fast time. This one took me just a day. I must be addicted. This game is one of the most stunning and beautiful games I have seen. It is so beautiful I just wanted to stay in it for ever.....except for the whole 'we hate Irish people and ethnic people' thing they got going on. The story is a little confusing but I am totally playing it again to try to understand more. You are this guy named Booker and if you go to this floating city and take this girl trapped in a tower to this guy in New York then all your gambling debts will be written off. Simple to start with. Then this girl starts opening tears in time a space and it gets a little confuddled. Turns out people can be alive and dead and stuff....yeah...

Characters in this world are some of the best I've seen. The ever puzzling Lutece twins are amazing and interaction with them is usually hilarious. Elizabeth is not some weak girl who stumbles after the hero, she is very likeable character and quite handy in a fight, as well as when exploring. She will toss you things like money (I love loot) and potions when fighting, Ammo if you're running low and Salts to refill your scary hand magic.

My favorite moment in this game is when I got all of a sudden transported into Rapture for a brief moment and seeing, what I think, was a little Sister and Big Daddy in a tube in the distance. I had grown quite fond of Rapture and I thought this was an awesome addition. I also thought I had escaped the frights but they still managed to sneak one in, intentional or not. As I am up in a tower after pressing a button with no one about, I turn around and right there all of a sudden is some alarm guy who starts alarming in my face. Probably the biggest jump I have ever had...ever.

Voxophones are hidden throughout levels to give you more insight and in this very confusing place you will want to find them. There is an awesome huge robot thing named songbird which is quite terrifying until he is on your side, then hes briefly awesome and a good contribution to the last fight. The one thing I feel lacking is The final fight is just a big free for all and I was hoping for an awesome singular boss fight with changing mechanics. I already want to play this game again though which can not be a bad thing. Also I walked into a bar and considering it's 1908 heard a little AC/DC and another bar had tainted love.

Also it seems Booker Dewitt likes looking in trash cans....

Bioshock 2

So I am just flying through these Bioshock games and I am addicted. This second installment sees even more amazing scenery, sound and characters but is, unfortunately for me, a lot scarier! In original Bioshock and this one I had almost managed to explore every nook and cranny available until after so many frights I approached a small optional room with autopsy wrote above. As I peered inside and took a step to complete exploration the lights started flickering and a hanging silhoutte was shown.....that's it....no more....too many scaredy jumps previously meant I just could not do it! Hopefully there was only an EVE Hypo inside.

The story is, once again, made a lot clearer if you collect all the hidden recordings and explore a lot. I was picking up recordings from this dad who went in search of his daughter only to find that she had been turned into a Little Sister. The recordings stopped and then after killing a big Daddy I realised he had the same name as the guy on the recordings. This was an awesome little side story that would have been completely missed if I had sped through the game.

I loved playing as a Big Daddy because, although I dislike children, Little Sisters are awesome in this game. It's about as maternal as I'm going to get but I really wanted to protect these stab happy children. Also I saw the original enemy (Big Daddy) as more of a victim, if I was ever to play through both again it would be a nice change of perspective for the first one. You have the choices to Harvest or Save little Sisters again but also with another option to adopt, get them to gather more ADAM and then harvest or save. Typically I saved them all again and was treated to what I think was the happiest ending you could get. There are also three optional enemies you come across that you can choose to save or kill which affects the ending.

On my travels around Rapture I was looting a lot (I love to loot) and I couldn't help but notice my Big Daddy had a taste for potato chips. This opened a whole lot of questions, as I am left thinking how the hell do I manage to eat those......

Bioshock

Just completed this game on Tuesday after a false start about a year ago. This game has made me rethink about trying games I didn't get on with the first time around, because my second attempt showed me how brilliant this game is! I was initially a bit skeptical as I hate anything scary but I'm more inclined to the word eerie for this one. There were only about three moments where I actually jumped out my skin, but that was probably me being a wimp. The eeriness of the game is helped along with a perfect music score, lighting and level design and the tragedy of what has befallen rapture is perfectly explained if you explore every nook and cranny for recordings. I did a lot of exploring and it paid off, if you just skip through blindly not exploring the detail you don't really get submerged far into the story and there's a chance you won't have a clue whats going on.

During your blundering through rapture you stumble upon Big Daddy(big mechanical diving suits with drill hands) and Little Sisters (little girls are creepy.....FACT), and are given the option to harvest or save the Little Sisters. During my play through I saved all the little sisters and was given a super happy ending with a family of adopted daughters. The replay value is there if you want to give a try harvesting them to see an alternate ending.

After this refreshingly different game I'm slightly addicted.....now, if you would kindly play this game too.

Tales Of The Abyss 3DS

After 40 long hours I've finally managed to complete this game.....and I have no strong feelings either way.....so yeah not a good start. Now I LOVE the Tales series but this remake from the original 2006 game had me a little confused. What the hell is a Fonon? I still have no idea. Apart from not understanding most of the conversations about Fonons the story can be followed. So there's a big bad man and he wants to end the world and then there's the classic group of heroes. If you read all the optional skits you can really get quite involved in the story. The thing lacking is character development. You start with an arrogant twat named Luke who apparently is supposed to mature throughout the game. Lets just say he didn't mature gracefully, he went from arrogant twat to whingy negatron, so even after all his sacrificial talk I had no real connection with this character. I much preferred the bad guys team (known as the Six God generals) and was actually a little sad when they departed. Now a game that makes me want to save the bad guys and not the good guys is doing something a little wrong if you ask me. Two of my team were awesome though and by far the best characters in the game. We have Jade whose witty sarcasm and brutal honesty was hilarious in every conversation. He is not afraid to go slapping some whiny princess teenager for being a nuisance. Got to love that! The second being Guy who has a fear of women, hes not gay or anything I don't think but he does not like huggles!
The Menu, battle system and cooking are all that of classic tales of games. There was some option for capacity core equips that I completely ignored because it never got explained and I still finished the game fine. Between the 25-35 hour mark of this 40 hour game things got a little tedious and stretched. You have just got to power through. It has you going back and forth between cities about a billion times to talk to so and so who then sends you to talk to so and so who then sends you back to talk to the original guy who then decided we didn't need that first guy, go talk to this other guy. I'm pretty sure I put about ten hours into commuting.
Still don't know what a Fonon is.
Still not quite sure what actually happened in the end.
Still not sure if the Malkuth empire is paying my miles for all the commuting.
